Barclay label released in 1980 a number of hits: La Groupie Du Pianiste by Michel Berger, Argent Trop Cher by the rock band Téléphone, Gaby oh Gaby and Vertige de l’Amour, performed by Alain Bashung, and the album O Gringo which revealed Bernard Lavilliers to the attention of the general public.

Serge Gainsbourg

Serge Gainsbourg sings a duet with actress Catherine Deneuve, and continues his career in a reggae vein with the album : Mauvaises Nouvelles Des Étoiles.

Daniel Balavoine

The Australian Fairlight synthesizer, one of the first samplers, came out in 1980, and was bought by Peter Gabriel, Jean-Michel Jarre and Daniel Balavoine.

Balavoine racked up the hits, mixing electro sounds with the high range of his voice, which tends towards high-pitched vocals.

Indochine

In 1982, Nicola Sirkis on vocals and Dominique Nicolas on keyboards founded the synth-pop group Indochine, in homage to the screenwriter, essayist Marguerite Duras.

Jean-Pierre Mader, Gold, Images

With jazz singer Claude Nougaro, the city of Toulouse vibrated to the sounds of rock and jazz. In 1985, a wave of synth-pop variety took over with Images and artists initially known in popular dance bands like Jean-Pierre Mader or Gold, formerly “Les Goldfingers”.

Etienne Daho

Etienne Daho offers two dancefloor major tracks : Tombé Pour La France and Epaule Tattoo, which follow on from Indochine’s l’Aventurier, released in 1982, and Rita Mitsouko’s Marcia Baïla, released in 1984.
