In 1982, Nicola Sirkis on vocals and Dominique Nicolas on keyboards founded the synth-pop group Indochine, in homage to the screenwriter, essayist Marguerite Duras.

With jazz singer Claude Nougaro, the city of Toulouse vibrated to the sounds of rock and jazz. In 1985, a wave of synth-pop variety took over with Images and artists initially known in popular dance bands like Jean-Pierre Mader or Gold, formerly “Les Goldfingers”.
